The Ceremonial Opening of the Legal Year 2026 is set to take place on Monday, as the legal community comes together to showcase the city’s robust rule of law and foster professional exchange across jurisdictions.

This year, more than 100 legal leaders and representatives from 54 lawyers’ associations and legal organizations across 24 jurisdictions will take part in the ceremony.
The guest list features notable judges invited by the President of the Law Society of Hong Kong Roden Tong Man-lung, including President of the the Investment and Trade Court of the State of Qatar Khalid Ali Al Obaidli and the first female Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat.
She will also serve as a guest speaker at the upcoming Symposium on Diversity and Inclusion organized by the Law Society of Hong Kong on Tuesday.

The Law Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Bar Association co‑hosted a series of visits and networking activities for the guests on Sunday. The program commenced with a morning sightseeing tram tour that set off in Causeway Bay and ended in Sai Wan.
The journey passed through important legal landmarks such as the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal and the High Court of Hong Kong, allowing guests to experience the unique cultural charm of Hong Kong Island’s north shore, where tradition and modernity intertwine.
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 was taking place at the same time, adding extra energy to the tram ride. In the afternoon, guests visited the Hong Kong Palace Museum to explore the rich and profound Chinese history and culture.
Later today, they will visit the Legislative Council for exchanges with the lawmakers and attend a welcoming reception.
Last night, Tong hosted a private dinner to welcome early‑arriving guests. This event showcased Hong Kong’s internationalization and highlighted the city’s robust legal framework, along with its strengths and appeal as a global financial center.
