CCTV footage shows the suspect killed by police in Tuen Mun Town Plaza on Thursday entering a Donki supermarket kitchen and taking a beef knife with a blank expression, moments before he began threatening people in the mall.

The footage, released after the incident, shows the man in a white shirt entering through a back kitchen door at 7.08pm as an employee was washing utensils. He ignored the employee, walked past and took the knife before leaving. The employee shouted after him, but the suspect showed no response.

At 7.13pm, police received reports of a man with a beef knife wandering in the mall and nearby streets. Social media videos showed crowds screaming and fleeing. Two women fell, with the suspect getting close and nearly striking one with the knife before she got up and escaped.
Police with shields quickly arrived and confronted him in the mall. Sources said the man became agitated, took a female passerby hostage and threatened her life. Officers fired two shots, hitting him.
The suspect was pronounced dead at Tuen Mun Hospital at 8.47pm. The hostage was unhurt and taken to hospital for check-up. At the scene, police found the knife, a large amount of blood, a bullet and suspected methamphetamine and a retractable baton on the suspect. Investigations continue into whether drugs influenced his actions.
