An off-duty police officer was arrested in the early hours of Sunday after allegedly assaulting officers who were handling a noise complaint at a residential unit in Tsing Yi, police said.
The incident occurred at around 1am on January 4 at a flat on Fung Shue Wo Road, where officers responded to a report of excessive noise. During the operation, a man suspected of being under the influence of alcohol allegedly attacked police officers at the scene.
Following a preliminary investigation, the 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties, and failing to produce proof of identity. Police confirmed that the suspect is an off-duty officer attached to the Border District headquarters.
He has since been reassigned to desk duties and barred from carrying firearms, pending further investigation.
The case is being handled by Kwai Tsing police investigators. The arrested man has been released on bail and is required to report back to police in early February.
Police stressed that the force attaches great importance to officers’ discipline and integrity, and that any staff member who breaks the law will not be tolerated and will be dealt with seriously.
