An 80-year-old man was hospitalized after a fire broke out in his Diamond Hill flat on Sunday, prompting the evacuation of approximately 100 residents.
Police received reports around 1.18pm of smoke billowing from a unit at Fu Shan Estate.
The Fire Services Department deployed a jet and a breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames. The fire was reportedly extinguished by around 1.58pm, leaving the exterior wall of the affected unit blackened.
There were four individuals inside the flat at the time of the incident, including the elderly man who was discovered unconscious and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, the three remaining residents were safely evacuated along with around 100 neighbours. Among those evacuated was Choi. She recounted fleeing with her daughter and their two pet cats after spotting the security staff alerting the residents on the lower floors.
"My heart was racing as I had never experienced anything like this before," said Choi's daughter.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
