A 23-year-old mainland Chinese man died after falling from the departure level at Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday.
Police received a report from an airport staff member at about 7pm that a man was found lying on Cheong Hong Road near a taxi stand, having apparently fallen from a height.
Emergency personnel arrived to find the man, surnamed Chen, unconscious. He was taken to North Lantau Hospital where he was later certified dead.
Initial investigation suggests the man fell from the roadside at the departure level. No suicide note was found at the scene. The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
The man was a mainland Chinese visitor holding a two-way permit and had a recorded history of emotional illness, according to sources.
