Man arrested at HK airport with 8kg of cannabis buds from Bangkok

Customs officers at Hong Kong International Airport have arrested a 32-year-old non-local man after discovering approximately 8 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds in his carry-on luggage on Tuesday.

The man arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, when customs inspection uncovered the drugs with an estimated street value of HK$1.6 million.

Authorities said the investigation continues and emphasized they will intensify efforts against drug trafficking through intelligence analysis and risk-based passenger screening, particularly targeting high-risk regions.

Customs reminded the public to remain vigilant against drug trafficking activities, warning against transporting controlled substances for financial gain or assisting others with unidentified items. Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking carries a maximum penalty of HK$5 million fines and life imprisonment.
