The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announced that it would confer honorary doctorates on three outstanding individuals in recognition of their contributions to academia, society and the world.
They included Arthur Li Kwok-cheung, chairman of the governing Council of HKU, pioneering engineer Chen Gang, and prominent philanthropist Patrick Poon Sun-cheong.
Li, recognized as both a distinguished educator and renowned surgeon, will receive a degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa for his lasting impact on Hong Kong's medicine, education and social service.
Chen, who is celebrated as a pioneer in power engineering for his work in nanoscale heat transfer and energy science, will also be awarded the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa.
HKU noted that his research has driven multiple technological innovations with profound impacts on both the scientific community and society.
Poon will be conferred the degree of Doctor of Social Science honoris causa.
Described as a pioneering actuary and distinguished business leader, Poon is recognized for his commitment to advancing professional services, education, and community efforts.
The Honorary Degrees will be awarded at the 216th Congregation to be held on November 26, where HKU Pro-Chancellor David Li Kwok-po will officiate at the ceremony.
