32-year-old mother arrested for child neglect after 7-year-old son climbs onto canopy in Chai Wan

A case of suspected child neglect occurred in Chai Wan. Around 3:30pm on Wednesday, police received a report from a passerby stating that a boy was seen climbing out from a window of a unit at 388-414 Shau Kei Wan Road and standing on a canopy, in a dangerous situation.

Police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, and the boy later returned to a safe position inside the unit on his own. After initial investigation, police arrested the boy's 32-year-old mother, surnamed Au-yeung, on suspicion of "ill-treatment or neglect of a child or young person."

Sources indicated the boy is approximately 7 years old and lives with his mother at the incident unit. The mother was resting at home when the incident occurred. The boy was examined and showed no visible injuries, requiring no hospital treatment. The case has been assigned to the Eastern District crime squad for follow-up investigation.
