A Citybus driver is in stable condition after a shocking incident on the Tsing Long Highway Monday evening, in which a metal pole crashed through the windshield of his bus and struck him in the chest.
The 65-year-old driver, Lo, was operating the bus en route to Yuen Long at around 5pm when the accident occurred.
According to Citybus Corporate Affairs Manager John Yu, the driver had noticed the metal rod on the road about two lanes away and attempted to steer clear.
However, a passing vehicle ran over the pole, launching it into the air and sending it through the windshield, where it hit the driver on the left side of his chest.
Despite the sudden impact, the driver managed to safely stop the bus and ask passengers for help before being taken to the hospital.
Yuen, who provided an update on a radio program this morning, said the driver remains under observation but has sustained only minor abrasions and is doing well.
The company has praised the driver’s calm and professional response to the highly unusual incident and continues to monitor his condition while supporting his family.
Lo, who has driven for Citybus for nearly two decades, is well regarded by passengers on his regular Route 967.
