The LI-NING Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2025 has received the "M" Mark designation from Hong Kong's Major Sports Events Committee, recognizing the tournament's significant potential to deliver both sporting excellence and substantial economic benefits to the city.
The Super 500 event, scheduled for September 9 to 14 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, will now receive additional support as part of the government's strategy to position Hong Kong as a premier destination for international sports competitions.
The "M" Mark System, administered by the Major Sports Events Committee, aims to identify and develop world-class sporting events that can generate tourism, stimulate local business activity, and enhance Hong Kong's global reputation as a hub for major international competitions.
Events receiving this designation must demonstrate their ability to attract top international athletes, draw significant spectator attendance, and create sustainable economic impact.
The Committee emphasized that the badminton championships align perfectly with these objectives, noting that the event would bring Olympic medalists and world-ranked players to Hong Kong while creating opportunities for local athletes to compete on home turf.
The tournament is expected to draw badminton enthusiasts from mainland China and overseas, providing a welcome boost to the hospitality and retail sectors during the September event period.
The "M" Mark initiative represents Hong Kong's commitment to building a vibrant sports culture while delivering tangible community benefits through international sporting events that capture global attention and drive economic activity.
