Take all threats seriously - If someone mentions concrete plans, immediately contact emergency services
Stay calm and present - Your steady presence can provide crucial emotional stability
Encourage professional help - Gently suggest contacting mental health services together
Don't dismiss their feelings - Avoid phrases like "It's not that bad" or "Snap out of it"
Don't offer simple solutions - Comments like "Just think positive" minimize their pain
Don't leave them alone - If risk appears imminent, stay until help arrives
Don't wait - You may need to act immediately and reach out for professional help if the situation does not look good
"These conversations are difficult but necessary," Wong emphasized. "Sometimes just being there can make all the difference."
