Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, continues his second day in Hong Kong by convening a meeting with representatives from several patriotic groups at the Central Government Office this morning.
Having arrived in the city on Wednesday afternoon (Jun 18), Xia met with Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and senior government officials at Government House that evening.
During the meeting, Xia commented on the city leader's efforts to guide the governing team in achieving positive progress in areas such as national security, economic development, and community well-being.

Representatives from various clansmen associations and leaders of local political parties, including chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong Gary Chan Han-kan, chairwoman of the New People's Party Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, chairman of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong Lo Wai-kwok, were seen arriving at the Central Government Office around 8.30am on Thursday.
Xia arrived at approximately 9.30am, with sources indicating the discussion had lasted about three hours.
A golden reputation for education
It is also reported that Xia will meet with the presidents of eight universities and senior educators at the Central Government Offices this afternoon, marking his first collective meeting with the city's education leaders.
Xia has repeatedly emphasized the golden reputation of Hong Kong's higher education as a core competitive advantage, urging the education sector to leverage the advantages of "one country, two systems" to develop Hong Kong as an international education hub.
Additionally, sources suggest that Xia's itinerary today includes a visit to the Kai Tak Sports Park and will conclude the day with a view of Hong Kong's skyline from The Peak.
