Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho noted that the authorities aim to complete the construction of the 60 kilometer "Round-the-Island Trail" on Hong Kong Island by the end of 2031.
In response to lawmakers' inquiries on Wednesday, Linn stated that 85 percent of the trail has been linked, with an estimate of reaching 90 percent by the end of 2027.
The remaining six km section -- spanning from Shau Kei Wan to Heng Fa Chuen and from Nam Long Shan (Brick Hill) to Mills & Chung Path -- is expected to be completed by 2031, considering the complexity of the construction such as slope modifications.
Separately, lawmakers suggested that the government should refer to Singapore's Marina Bay and establish eateries on both sides of Victoria Harbour, aiming to boost tourism vitality in the short term.
Linn explained that the government plans to introduce at least two dining stalls at four waterfront locations -- including Central, Wan Chai, North Point, and Tsim Sha Tsui -- within the year.
She also emphasized the importance of utilizing the distinctive characteristics of different waterfront sections, noting that areas with fixed dining facilities will not be prioritized for the eatery expansions.
