The MTR Corporation announced that the installation of Automatic Platform Gates (APGs) at the University Station had been completed, with the construction work at Mong Kok East and Lo Wu station nearing completion.
The entire project for installing APGs on the East Rail Line is expected to be completed between May and June, about six months ahead of the original schedule, MTR added.
Due to the curved platforms, University, Lo Wu and Mong Kok East stations are among the last batch of stations on East Rail Line to have the APGs installed, with work beginning in the fourth quarter of last year.
MTR highlighted that the team overcame various challenges during the process, which included adapting to the platform curvatures, using glass doors of varying widths, and altering installation angles and distances from the platform edges.
The APG installation project on the East Rail Line, which began in 2023 and aims to install about 1,600 pairs of gates across 13 stations, has been completed at 11 stations.
