According to the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, most restaurants will be able to complete one or two full rounds of service during the Winter Solstice, with the total business volume estimated between HK$380 million and HK$400 million. This figure is nearing the pre-pandemic figures, which ranged from approximately HK$400 million to HK$430 million.
Simon Wong Ka-wo, president of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, attributed part of this resurgence to the reinstatement of Shenzhen’s multiple-entry visa, which has significantly boosted consumer spending. Wong noted that restaurants in bustling areas are often fully booked at night, and even regional establishments have seen high occupancy rates.
He projected an 8 percent increase in overall business volume for the Winter Solstice this year compared to last year. Looking ahead, Wong is optimistic about the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. He believes that Hong Kong's festive atmosphere, coupled with the burgeoning 'panda economy,' will further enhance the catering industry's business momentum.
The reintroduction of the multi-entry visa is also expected to compensate, to some extent, for the decrease in local consumption due to Hong Kong residents traveling to the mainland.
