Five universities from Hong Kong are ranked among the top 20 in the latest QS World University Rankings for Asia, with the majority experiencing an improvement in their rankings compared to the previous year.
The University of Hong Kong retained its position in second place, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong ascended to sixth, reflecting an improvement of four positions.
The City University of Hong Kong (CityU) achieved a remarkable advancement of seven spots, now ranking tenth and surpassing the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which holds the 11th position.
The Polytechnic University secured the 17th rank, marking an increase of six places compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, Baptist University dropped seven places to 71th and Lingnan University fell by 22 places to 188th.
Peking University in Beijing and the National University in Singapore took first and third place in the ranking, respectively.
CityU was recognized as among the top one percent of universities in Asia and ranked first in the region for global engagement. President Freddy Boey Yin-chiang expressed that entering the top ten demonstrates its steady progress in academic research and internationalization.
HKUST noted that it would use this ranking as a reference, emphasizing the varying criteria used across different rankings.
CUHK reported excellent scores in areas such as international faculty ratios and academic reputation, aiming to further enhance research and teaching quality.
Major indicators of the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings include academic reputation, employment reputation, faculty-student ratio, international research network, citations per paper, etc.
