Drinks at Kai Tak Sports Park should be more affordable, says district councillor

Kowloon City district councillor Kwan Ho-yeung said on Monday that the selling price for drinks sold at the Kai Tak Sports Park should be more affordable for residents.

His comments came after the first trial match was held at the Kai Tak Sports Park yesterday, with over 1,500 spectators attending a football game between the local league's third-tier clubs Sai Kung and Wong Tai Sin.

Having attended the game with some 50 residents from his constituency, Kwan said the pricing for drinks sold at the sports park could be more affordable, suggesting a HK$5 reduction in beverage prices.

At the sports park yesterday, a temporary stall was set up to sell beverages. A 500ml soft drink was priced at HK$28, a 500ml bottle of mineral water at HK$20, and a small can of beer at HK$40.

The district councillor said the pricing was similar to those at theme parks and the Hong Kong Stadium, and he hoped the price could be lowered to make it more affordable for spectators.

He also suggested event organizers announce in advance items not permitted to be brought into the venue, in order to expedite the process through security checks.

Meanwhile, transport sector lawmaker Gary Zhang Xinyu believes that the trial match held yesterday primarily focused on testing operational processes and signages at the sports park.

He said authorities should make sure of good crowd management and achieve a smooth and orderly flow of people in the future.
