Hong Kong police have arrested a male teacher working at one of the city’s prestigious schools for allegedly installing a hidden camera inside a girls’ washroom to take sexually explicit videos.
The news came after a school janitor at St. Mary's Canossian College discovered the hidden camera inside a girls’ washroom last Monday (Oct 7).
Sources said the janitor made the discovery when cleaning the washroom, with school management found recordings of two pupils upon inspection.
The school said in a statement issued earlier on Monday that it had handed over the case, including the device, to police for further investigation. Reports were also filed with the school’s management committee and the Education Bureau.
“The staff member concerned has been suspended from all duties, prohibited from entering the school premises and forbidden from contacting any students or other staff members through direct or indirect means,” the school said, adding that the measures took effect last Wednesday.
The school said it was “gravely concerned” about the safety of all members of its community, and that an inspection had been conducted promptly on campus, especially in all washrooms and changing rooms.
It was said that the teacher had admitted to committing the crime and had been arrested for voyeurism. He was barred from stepping foot into the school since Wednesday (Oct 9) and was ordered not to contact anyone from the school.
