First batch of light public housing opens for applications

Over 4,400 units of Light Public Housing in Yuen Long and Ngau Tau Kok opened for applications on Monday, with many hoping to improve their living conditions.

Many people were seen arriving at the offices to submit their applications and request information for the Yuen Long Yau Pok Road and Ngau Tau Kok Choi Hing Road units.

An applicant stated that they suffered from chronic illnesses and had lived in subdivided housing for five years with their wife, and walking on stairs made their symptoms even worse.

Another resident living alone in a subdivided housing unit said they had been waiting for a public housing unit for over four years and thought that the Light Public Housing had all the necessary facilities, thinking it was more urgent to improve their living condition.

The first batch of Light Public Housing will cost HK$740 to HK$2650 to rent, and the first group of tenants is expected to enter the first quarter of next year.

The Housing Bureau has sent out application forms to the 85,000 people waiting for public housing for over three years and will notify them of their successful applications in the fourth quarter of this year.

In addition to submitting forms at the Lok Fu office of the Housing Authority and Revenue Tower in Wan Chai, applicants can also apply by mail or through "iAM Smart".

The bureau will prioritize applications received before July 15 and continue to accept applications after July 16.
