In a remarkable eight-year creative partnership, D2 Place at Lai Chi Kok has joined forces with the French May Arts Festival to stage the captivating three-day event—‘The French May Carnival.’ The French May Arts Festival is an eagerly awaited annual large-scale cultural event in Asia that promotes cultural exchange between Hong Kong and France. Through a dazzling array of programs spanning art, dance, music, cinema, and circus performances, the festival fosters greater appreciation and understanding between the two places.
The ‘French May Carnival’ treated attendees to a meticulously curated selection of 50 brands, offering an indulgent array of authentic French cultural experiences. From artisanal culinary delights to captivating live performances, the carnival provided a uniquely immersive glimpse into French joie de vivre. Gourmands, in particular, were smiling from ear to ear with complimentary tastings of the well-respected 1664 Brut beer and freshly baked classic French madeleines, and other yummy delicacies.
Complimentary interactive French workshops were also part of the carnival. Visitors could join the French Perfume Bar and the French Diffusing Stone Workshop - Myosotis Flower, to create a tailor-made French aroma. Visitors freely explored classy French designs, and enjoyed themselves in a series of vocal, instrumental and dance performances at THE SPACE on the 2/F of D2 Place ONE.
The three-day ‘French May Carnival’ celebration at D2 Place kicked off on Friday, May 24 and concluded on Sunday, May 26, with each day featuring a unique thematic focus. The opening ceremony featured the presence of Ms Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, who was very impressed with the festive atmosphere and fun-packed program, and expressed her gratitude for the wonderful collaboration with D2.
The opening night commenced with a tenor’s stirring performance of French opera, followed by a Jazz Music Night to help attendees unwind.
The vibrant Parisian music performed by DJs, vocalists, and musical groups captivated the crowd for an uninterrupted period of seven hours on the second day. While Sunday was designated as a family-friendly fun day, with D2 Place - a pet-friendly mall - hosting a special French-inspired afternoon tea party to welcome furry friends and their owners.
The party showcased a variety of performances, including modern dance, string quartet, and orchestral classical music that evoked the serene essence of French culture.
