The Transport and Logistics Bureau said Trunk Road T4 in Shatin is a key project for the Northeast New Territories and crucial for alleviating rush hour traffic congestion while there is no room for any delays.
Without the T4 main road, the traffic situation in Shatin and Ma On Shan is anticipated to continue deteriorating, potentially leading to congestion in the entire district.
The Bureau posted on social media on Thursday that if the Legislative Council approves the HK$7.16 billion funding, the project is expected to be completed within six years.
The Trunk Road T4 will not only immediately alleviate the congestion on Tai Po Road (Shatin section) but will also effectively address the current traffic issues in Shatin, Fo Tan, Shek Mun and Ma On Shan, it added.
The project can shorten the journey time between Ma On Shan town center and the Shing Mun Tunnels from 20 minutes to 12 minutes during peak hours.
The Bureau stressed the urgency of constructing T4, as delaying the project would only disappoint the residents.
It will continue to lobby since the project’s funding application was withdrawn due to a lack of lawmakers’ support last month.
