Tow-truck worker dies after suspectedly being run over by a plane

A 34-year-old worker died at the airport in the early hours of Tuesday after he suspectedly fell out of the backseat of an aircraft tow truck and was rolled over by a plane. 

The fatal incident was reported to police by the 60-year-old tow truck driver around 3 am today. 

It is understood that the driver and the deceased worker were towing a plane to the airport’s West Apron at the time but the worker in the backseat was missing. The driver then returned along his driving route and found the worker collapsed on a taxiway. 

The driver immediately informed his supervisor and reported the incident to police. Paramedics soon came only to pronounce the worker dead at the scene. 

After preliminary investigation, police suspect the worker – a 36-year-old non-Chinese man holding a Hong Kong identity card – fell out of the tow truck and was rolled over by a plane. 

Yet, it remains unclear if he was run over by the plane they were towing or other planes in the area. 

The Airport Authority later confirmed that the deceased worker was an employee of China Aircraft Services Ltd (CASL). The worker suspectedly didn't buckle the seatbelt, according to live sources. 

Police listed the case as a fatal traffic accident. An investigation is ongoing.
