Lai’s death has also been confirmed by her actor and martial artist ex-husband Ken Lo Wai-kwong.
The incident was reported to police around 1.12 pm today as Lai fell into a coma after she burned charcoal and was found by her son.
Lai was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital but was eventually pronounced dead. Police didn’t find any suicide note in her home and the cause of death has yet to be confirmed, pending an autopsy.
According to Lai’s Instagram updates yesterday (Dec 25), she attended a barbecue with her friends and family and uploaded a photo of her and her dog.
Her latest post prior to yesterday was published in early October about celebrating her son’s birthday.
Lai was the runner-up in the ATV Miss Asia Pageant in 1995. She married her first husband Lo in 1998 and they had two sons. Lai and Lo divorced in 2006 and Lo took custody of the two children.
Lai then married her current husband Angus Hui Chi-ching, a cosmetic surgeon, in 2007. Lai had another two sons with Hui.
Lai once starred in the third installment of the Young and Dangerous franchise but later turned to the jewelry trade and philanthropy.
She was mostly seen in ViuTV’s drama Legal Affairs.
