This year’s Le Bal des Débutantes will be held at Shangri-La Paris on November 25. The ball invites some 20 debutantes aged 16 to 22 from various countries every year.
Mainland director Zhang Yimou’s son, Ethan Zhang Yinan – a fresh graduate from University of Southern California – will also attend the ball as a cavalier.
The ball, an eye-catching celebrity charity event, was once described as one of the world’s 10 “hottest parties” by Forbes magazine.
It is also the only top ball that sends out real-name invitations with no admission tickets open for sale.
This year’s Le Bal des Débutantes has invited four Chinese girls – the most ever – including the Yvette Yao, former chief executive Tung Chee-hwa’s grandniece, banking heir Skye Wong and mainlander Zhao Ruoxi.
Alice Ho, youngest daughter of late casino king Stanley Ho Hung-sun, Hong Kong actress Chingmy Yau Suk-zing’s daughter Ayla Sham Yuet and martial artist Jet Li Lianjie’s daughter Jane Li have attended the ball in the past.
