Around 8 am today, a 1-meter by 0.5-meter piece of concrete fell off from the canopy of the New Lai King Building located on 60 Yin Hing Street, exposing its iron bars and spreading shards all over the floor. No injuries were reported.
The police and firefighters were alerted and cordoned off the area.
The firefighters used a lifting platform to assess the situation and remove pieces of concrete at risk of falling.
The Housing Department was also alerted to the scene to investigate.
According to previous records, the New Lai King Building is nearly 60 years old and was issued a mandatory building inspection notice on October 9, 2019, which was still "not complied with."
The New Lai King Building owners' corporation had previously passed the application to participate in the "Mandatory Building Inspection Subsidy Scheme" in December last year to conduct inspections for the common parts of the building.
