Concrete chunk pierces through KMB bus roof, no casualties

Police were alerted to Sham Shui Po after a chunk of concrete fell off and smashed through the roof of a KMB double-decker bus this morning.

A route 30X bus driving along Nathan Road towards Sham Shui Po was hit by a concrete piece falling from Sun Hing Building. The chunk pierced through the bus roof, leaving a 30-centimeter by 30-centimeter hole along with shards of concrete in the upper deck and on the side of the road, with the largest concrete chunk in the upper deck measuring about 25-centimeter by 25 centimeter.

Fortunately, no one got hurt in the incident. 

According to live reports, the 17th floor of the Sun Hing Building was under renovation and a 1-foot by 1.5-foot hole was found in the safety net after the incident.

The case has been handed over to the Mong Kok police district. A 47-year-old worker in charge of the renovation project has been detained for investigation.

It is the second concrete falling incident that occurred at the building within 11 days, after a concrete slab peeled off from the first floor and fell near the bus stop on July 29.
