Senior Scientific Officer (Forecast Operation) Lam Hok-yin stated that the area of low pressure is currently gathering over the seas east of the Philippines and warned the public that the weather next Tuesday (Jul 25) and Wednesday (Jul 26) might be unstable.
He added that it is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within one or two days before entering the northern part of the South China Sea early next week.
The area of low pressure has a high chance of intensifying into a stronger tropical cyclone based on the forecast model and edging closer to the vicinity of the coast of southern China, Lam said.
He stated that its movement remains uncertain, and it is still too early to discuss what signal to hoist. However, it will be windy with squally showers over the city in the middle of next week.
