Design for HK$98.66 million expansion at Hong Kong Sports Institute revealed

A 1,400-square-meter training ground for fencing and table tennis will be included in Hong Kong Sports Institute's expansion plan, a document sent to lawmakers revealed. 

The government is accelerating a plan to expand the institute in Sha Tin after Hong Kong athletes snatched one gold, two silvers and three bronze in Tokyo Olympics – the best performance ever. 
A three-story building is expected to complete in June 2024. 

According to a document sent by Home Affairs Bureau to lawmakers, the new building will boast a 1,400-square-meter training ground for fencing and table tennis, and another 400-square-meter training ground for martial arts and dancing. 

There will also be expansion for facilities such as the fitness training center, sports medicine clinics and sports science laboratories, whose total area will increase 1.5 times. 

The full cost of the project totals about HK$98.66 million, and the Home Affairs Bureau stated that it aims to obtain approval from the Finance Committee before the Legislative Council adjourns this term. 

The new building will be situated between the rowing center at the south of the Institute and the swimming center at the north.
