RTHK should respond in a responsible manner over wrongdoings: Edward Yau

In view of RTHK being ruled to have repeatedly breached the codes of practice, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau had requested RTHK to respond in a positive and responsible manner to avoid the recurrence of similar mistakes.

In the two years of 2019-20 and 2020-21 as of January, the Communications Authority found a total of seven complaint cases concerning the RTHK's programs substantiated.

Edward Yau Tang-wah, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, said the bureau had found this a matter of serious nature and had since requested RTHK to conduct a full review of its editorial oversight of the program production.

Yau also added that the Government has no plan to privatize RTHK at present, and had already put together a dedicated team to review the governance and management of RTHK.

“The team had started its work in July last year, the review is expected to be completed in about six months, and the dedicated team will submit a report to the bureau,” said Yau.
