The Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said today the National Security Law is essential in restoring the economy, emphasizing that it safeguards most law-abiding citizens.

Speaking at a National Day celebration event, Lam said the law ensures stability, after months of social unrest since last year.
She said the economy will only recover when stability is restored. Everyone should bear responsibility for upholding national security. The National Security Law stopped the violence and restored peace.
Lam also thanked the central government for supporting Hong Kong in fighting the coronavirus epidemic, the universal virus testing program, setting up community treatment facilities and makeshift hospitals.
She said Hong Kong is confident of fighting the epidemic and restoring Hong Kong's economy.
