Hong Kong has reported a record-high 133 Covid-19 infections today, as the city’s daily infection has hit triple-digit four days in a row.
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said 126 cases were domestic infections, among which 71 patients were linked to previous clusters and sources of the other 55 cases were unknown.
The death toll has climbed to 18, as two men died from the virus today, marking the tenth and eleventh deaths in the past two weeks amid the resurgence in coronavirus cases.
An 84-year-old who lived in Ping Shek Estate in Choi Hung succumbed to the disease in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital at 4am today, while another 60-year-old patient with heart disease passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital this afternoon.
Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP’s communicable disease branch, said cases were found at Tsing Yi South Fire station, where three firefighters were confirmed with the virus and about two dozen staff will have to be tested.
There are also cases at a 40-people cruise party, the Salvation Army Lung Hang Residence for Senior Citizens in Tai Wai, the Sai Ying Pun wet market, the Super Star Live Music bar in Tsim Sha Tsui and a Wan Chai restaurant, while others were connected to a party in Tuen Mun’s Fulum Restaurant with around 200 people attendees.
A student living in the University Hall at the University of Hong Kong is also among the new cases.
A resident and staffer at the Cornwall Elderly’s Home in Tuen Mun were diagnosed with the disease, while another six residents and a staffer were tested positive preliminarily.
The Hospital Authority said 932 patients are hospitalized at the moment and another 50 people have been discharged.
Seven of the patients confirmed with the virus today were arrivals from India and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, from next week, the CHP will start providing free sampling bottles for patients with mild symptoms or those at high risk of infections in general out-patient clinics.
The tally in Hong Kong has climbed to 2,506, which included 18 deaths.
