Police arrested nine people and seized a gambling table, about HK$10,000 in cash and HK$240,000 in chips during a raid on an illegal gambling den in Mong Kok on Monday.
The Mong Kok district special duties squad conducted operation "Fullboom," raiding a unit on Argyle Street after investigation and intelligence analysis.
A 63-year-old local woman, surnamed Yim, was arrested on suspicion of operating a gambling establishment. A 45-year-old local man, surnamed Siu, was held for assisting in managing it. Four local men and three local women, aged 25 to 85, were arrested for gambling in a gambling establishment. All are being held for investigation.
Police said operating a gambling establishment and gambling in one are serious offences under the Gambling Ordinance, with maximum penalties of a HK$5 million fine and seven years' jail for the former, and a HK$30,000 fine and nine months' jail for the latter. They urged the public to obey the law and said enforcement will continue.
