The bay achieved a 100 per cent compliance rate with Water Quality Objectives, reaching Class I national seawater standard, and supports diverse ecosystems including habitats for protected species such as hard corals, seahorses, horseshoe crabs and white-bellied sea eagles.
It encompasses the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and marine parks, showcasing harmonious human-nature coexistence.
The designation highlights cross-boundary cooperation with Guangdong and Shenzhen authorities on marine management, and the HKSAR Government plans to share its experience with mainland coastal cities while continuing pollution control and ecosystem protection to advance beautiful bay development. Out of 72 national applications, 32 bays were designated Beautiful Bays, with 12 including Mirs Bay named outstanding examples.
