Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Cui Jianchun led a delegation to visit multiple cities within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), aiming to foster their understanding of the development strategy for the region.
The delegation, comprising 60 consular and business representatives from Europe and Asia, started its four-day visit with a stop at Qianhai's artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics enterprises in Shenzhen.
They will also gain insights into the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone at its exhibitions.
During his pre-departure remarks, Cui emphasized that the One country, Two systems framework benefits both the nation and the international community.
He highlighted that the GBA's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has surpassed US$2 trillion (HK$15.6 trillion), ranking 11th in global growth rate.
"The GDP of the area is projected to overtake Tokyo by 2026 and is set to become the world's premier bay economy," he added.
In addition, the Consul-General of South Africa in Hong Kong, Mojalefa Mogono, stated that the Greater Bay Area has showcased unparalleled economic vitality and cultural diversity.
