Hong Kong actress Nancy Wu Ting-yan is pursuing her long-held dream of becoming a singer after leaving TVB earlier this year, with her surgeon husband Akin Chan Kin-wah supporting her new venture, according to East Week, a sister publication of The Standard.
The 44-year-old actress married Chan in New Zealand last October after dating for several years. She announced her departure from TVB in February after more than 20 years with the broadcaster, and has since been focusing on developing her career in music and film.
Wu entered the entertainment industry in 1999 after taking part in the New Talent Singing Championship. Although she has performed songs for TV dramas over the years, she has never released music as a full-fledged singer.
She reportedly set up her own company this year to pursue her music career and completed recording a new song in April. She is also expected to film a music video, with plans to release the song this summer.
Chan, an orthopedic surgeon, has reportedly been supporting Wu's career and has attended her recent performances.
Wu previously said her husband had attended her last four shows, despite rarely going to concerts.
“He rarely watches concerts. The one he watches the most is mine,” she said.
The couple were recently spotted having a meal at a cha chaan teng in Yuen Long. Wu was seen wearing a denim jacket, white cap and sunglasses, while Chan wore jeans.
After leaving the restaurant, Wu stopped to take photos with staff and passers-by who recognized her, while Chan waited nearby.
The couple were also seen leaving separately in their own cars, with reports saying Chan sometimes needs to return to hospital quickly after receiving emergency calls.
Wu has also been expanding her acting career after leaving TVB. She is set to appear in a mainland Chinese film produced by acclaimed filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang, alongside veteran actors Nina Paw Hee-ching and Cheung Ka-nin.
On having children, Wu has said she and Chan are not currently planning to become parents, saying the couple are happy with their life together for now.
