DSE examinees cry English reading comprehension more difficult

Students considered that the reading comprehension section in the English examination of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), conducted on Thursday, was more difficult than the previous two years.

The question of the mandatory passage in Paper 1 centers on society's fascination with the Gossip culture surrounding celebrities. 

Some examinees remarked that the questions used overly complex terminology and phrasing that did not align with the article, leaving them to spend extra time trying to understand the questions before answering.

Meanwhile, the optional questions covered topics including wild food foraging and the workplace phenomenon of "quiet quitting" among Generation Z, though some examinees found them difficult to understand.

However, other examinees noted that the difficulty level of the optional passage questions remained consistent with that of previous years.
