The Amber Rainstorm Warning was issued at 10 am with heavy rain exceeding 30 millimeters in an hour.
A trough of low pressure is bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong.
Locally, the heavy showers have brought more than 10 millimeters of rainfall over many places, with rainfall even having exceeded 70 millimeters over parts of Lantau Island this morning.
There will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas. People who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risks posed by the heavy rain and flooding.
Citizens are also advised to stay away from watercourses and take necessary precautions to avoid losses caused by flooding.
Rain is particularly heavy on Lantau Island, with more than 70 millimeters of hourly rainfall fallen or expected to fall and may cause serious flooding.
In the past hour at 11.45 am, more than 90 millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in Cheung Sha on Lantau Island.
