Police announced on Tuesday that they will begin two operations starting Wednesday to combat illegal, unlicensed taxis and illegal parking as the Labour Day Holiday comes closer.
In conjunction with the Labour Day holiday, the police will launch operations code-named "KICKSTARTER" and "CELLBREAKER" in various districts across Hong Kong from April 24 to May 8 to combat traffic violations.
The quality of pick-up services provided by public service vehicles improves the travel experience of visitors to Hong Kong and maintains smooth traffic during their stay there, a police spokesperson said.
Through a series of enforcement actions, the police hope to severely crack down on illegal activities involving public service vehicles, illegal use of cars for carrying passengers for reward, and illegal parking that hinders tour buses.
During the operation, the police will take strict enforcement actions against the above-mentioned illegal activities.
In addition to law enforcement operations, the police will also continue to carry out education and publicity activities in various districts and distribute souvenirs and promotional leaflets to citizens and visitors to Hong Kong to increase their awareness.
The police remind members of the public or visitors to Hong Kong that if they suspect tax overcharging or other illegal behaviors, they should record the driver's information, license plate number, time and location, etc., and notify the police for follow-up actions.
The police also appealed, saying that traffic safety is the common responsibility of all road users and that both drivers and passengers need to abide by the law.
The police also called on all drivers to remain professional and jointly maintain the image of the industry and Hong Kong.
