It was announced on Monday that the operating organization of the government’s Yuen Long Shui Wah care team has ceased services for running out of resources after getting no district council seats, marking the first withdrawal since the government set up the care teams in 2022.
According to the Home Affairs Department data, the Yuen Long Livelihood Servicing Agency was chosen based on the selection process to operate the care team in September 2023, focusing mainly on servicing Tin Shui (I) Estate and Tin Wah Estate.
The team was headed by former Yuen Long district councilor Ken Chow Wing-kan, who also confirmed that the team had stopped operations, citing a lack of resources, among other reasons.
The department stated that they had received news back in December 2023 that the agency would not continue to operate the care team and that they had already arranged for the nearby Shui Oi district care team to provide the necessary services to the residents of Shui Wah and will find a new organization as soon as possible to take over the care team.
The department added that no other requests for withdrawal have been received so far.
