Over 1100 plunge into water for New Year Winter Swim

More than 1,100 swimmers - aged six to 77 - took to the sea on a warm winter day for the annual New Year Winter Swimming Lifesaving Championships.

The 600-meter race held in Repulse Bay drew a large crowd as the number of participants doubled compared to last year. The temperature was around 19 degrees Celsius with sunny skies. 

The races were divided into six categories, with 29-year-old Keith Sin Chin-ting and 24-year-old Wong Suet-wing winning the men's and women's championships in the open category, respectively.

A swimmer named Ip said he has participated in the race for ten years. He added that it was a warm day, and the water temperature was not as chilly as in past years.

A number of children also joined the Winter Swim, with a 6-year-old girl finishing the race along with her father.
