A 12-minute fireworks display will be held at midnight to celebrate 2024. It is expected to be the largest New Year's Eve fireworks display in history, attracting many tourists to Hong Kong.
The fireworks musical extravaganza themed "New Year New Legend" will depict the changing of the four seasons and the beauty of nature through colorful fireworks, as well as lighting effects and pyrotechnics set off from the rooftops of iconic buildings on Hong Kong Island.
Five barges will launch fireworks simultaneously. Various vantage points along Victoria Harbour will be fitted with audio systems to broadcast the soundtrack of the fireworks musical.
Many mainland tourists visited Hong Kong during the three-day holiday to watch the fireworks display and welcome the new year. With 398,000 people recorded entering the country and 447,000 people leaving the country at various ports yesterday (Dec 30).
Some Shenzhen tourists said they rushed to Hong Kong for the fireworks.
A number of tourists also came to Hong Kong to shop for the new year, with many not having budgets and thinking of buying whatever they liked after a long pandemic break.
Extensive road closures will be implemented starting at 6pm today. Spectators are advised to use public transport and arrive early at designated locations.
