Hong Kong customs announced on Friday that they had arrested one man on suspicion of trafficking HK$2.43 million worth of suspected cannabis on Wednesday.
On December 12 (Wed), through a risk assessment, customs inspected an express parcel at the Shenzhen Bay Control Point, which was declared to be carrying an oil flow control valve, arriving in Hong Kong from South Africa via the mainland.
Upon inspection, customs officers found a batch of suspected cannabis buds within the package.
Customs officers subsequently mounted a controlled delivery operation yesterday (Dec 14) and arrested a 38-year-old man suspected to be connected with the case in Pat Heung, located in Yuen Long.
He has been charged with one count of "attempting to traffic in a dangerous drug" and will appear at Shatin Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (Dec 16).
A customs spokesman reminds members of the public to stay alert and not participate in drug trafficking activities for monetary gain.
The spokesman also stated they will continue to maintain close contact with the logistics industry to step up action against drug trafficking through express courier channels.
