Mother in court for slashing twin handicapped sons denied bail

A 53-year-old mother was denied bail by a Hong Kong court on Friday after she allgedly knifed her twin handicapped sons at their Diamond Hill home early this month.

The mother Chien Hsiao Chuan, 53, was brought to the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court to hear her charges. She was charged with two counts of wounding.

The court heard that the woman had assaulted the twins and hurt herself at their home in Lung Kei House of Lung Poon Court.

Acting principal magistrate Veronica Heung Shuk-han rejected Chien’s application for bail, as the prosection requested to adjourn the case for further investigation, including testing the blood-stained clothing found at the scene.

The case was adjouned to December 15, while Chien is expected to appear in court again coming Friday for bail reveiw.

The assault at Lung Kei House, Lung Poon Court was reported to police in the morning of October 5 by the twins’ 51-year-old father surnamed Or.

He first spotted a few slash wounds on the abdomen of the younger brother who was in the toilet. He then checked on the older brother as well as Chien, and found both of them had also sustained slash wounds to their abdomen. 

It was understood that the brothers, who suffer from autism spectrum disorder and are intellectually handicapped, had been staying in a special school in Shek Kip Mei, but were requested to move back home as they had turned 21 this July.
