Sino Group organizes extravaganza at Olympian City to cheer HK athletes at the Asian Games

As the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou kicked off amidst spectacular fanfare on Saturday (23 Sep), Sino Group’s Olympian City organized a warm-up party in the same evening to allow members of the public to watch the live broadcast on a giant TV screen and cheer on the biggest-ever delegation of Hong Kong athletes to compete in the Games.

The event was hosted by four sports celebrities, including former China Women’s National Volleyball Team captain Sun Yue, Hong Kong’s badminton medalist Yip Pui Yin, former figure skater Maisy Ma Hiu Ching, and former golf team representative Stephanie Ho Ngan Si.

They played games with the audience, shared with them knowledge about the Asian Games, and distributed gifts and souvenirs. Coming from across the city, the enthusiastic crowd is united in a common objective of wishing Hong Kong athletes well in the competition, hopefully bettering past records in terms of medal haul.

The well-known Chinese volleyball player Sun noted that the atmosphere of the live telecast was quite incredible and emotional.  “The experience has left an indelible and touching impression in my mind,” she enthused.

Badminton medalist Yip changed her role from a competing athlete to one of the hosts at HOYTV’s comprehensive event coverage. “As an ex-competitor, I can assure you that public support and encouragement mean a lot to us, and can spur us on to lift our performance,” she remarked. “So I appeal to everybody to cheer them on.”

The ‘Goddess of Skating’, Maisy Ma, who has also represented Hong Kong in the past and won multiple medals, emphasized the pride and honor she felt in representing Hong Kong in international competitions. “Hong Kong athletes stand a good chance of achieving great results,” she added.”Let’s give them all our spiritual support.”

“I’ve always watched sports programs at home,” said Stephanie Ho. “So it’s a really surreal experience to be cheering on our wonderful athletes with so many like-minded supporters.”

Sino Group is in full support of the Hong Kong team in the Asian Games. Sino Group’s Olympian City, Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Citywalk and One North will broadcast live HOYTV Channel 77’s coverage of the events on 430-inch and 540-inch giant screens in the malls.

Games highlights on the next few days include Men’s Individual Foil and Women’s Individual Heavy Fencing, as well as Women’s 100m and 200m Freestyle events. Hongkongers will be able to watch Edgar Cheung Ka Long, Vivian Kong Man Wai, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey and other Hong Kong athletes in action, putting their best foot forward for medals, on the big TV screens in Sino Group’s shopping malls.

To support the athletes representing mainland China and Hong Kong, an “Asian Games cheering station” is set up in the atrium of Olympian City II until October 8. Visitors can designate an individual team or person to cheer on, and make a personal commitment to engage in sports, to qualify for discount vouchers of Olympian City shops.
