HK airport passenger traffic recovers to 60pc of pre-pandemic level

Hong Kong International Airport passenger traffic reached 3.8 million in July, the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) announced on Monday, with the daily average exceeding 120,000 passengers and returning to three-fifths of the pre-pandemic level.

The figure saw a 14.9 percent month-on-month increase and an eight-fold jump compared to July last year. Passengers to and from Southeast Asia, China, and Japan recorded the most substantial increases.

Furthermore, flight movements and cargo throughput in July increased by 7.4 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively, compared to June this year, to 24,030 movements and 361,000 tons.

AAHK said that the passenger volume at Hong Kong International Airport recorded a ten times year-on-year increase to 24.8 million in the past 12 months, while flight movements rose by 44.6 percent to 207,925.
