Specialty contractors stage protest over withheld wages

Several specialty contractors were spotted hanging a banner outside the gate of a Transitional Housing Project at "Yap Ting Terraced Home" on Thursday morning as they wished to recover around HK$600,000 in unpaid salaries overdue by two to three months ago.

Around 8 am today, contractors were seen hanging a banner with the words "Black-hearted boss", at the Yap Ting Terraced Home construction site in an attempt to recover their unpaid wages.

The workers' representative, surnamed Chan, stated that they started working at this site last November but have had their wages and material fees, of approximately HK$600,000, withheld since May.

The workers attempted to negotiate their withheld wages and material fees with the subcontractors but were always pushed away. They had to resort to asking the Labor Department for assistance yesterday.

Chan added that the other workers are already at the point where they have no money for their families and had to resort to this protest.
