The top Beijing official waved to the press and said “Hi everyone” when walking out of the airport lounge. He did not respond to reporters’ inquiries and boarded his ride.
Xia was welcomed by Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki and Chen Dong, deputy director of Beijing’s liaison office in the city this morning.
It is understood that Xia will hold close-door meetings on his first day in the city with government officials, members of key decision-making body the Executive Council, and liaison office staff.
Sources also said Xia would meet with local politicians, representatives of the city’s financial sector and those from the I&T sector. His itinerary also includes visits to local universities and wet markets.
The SAR government said earlier that Xia would attend events marking National Security Education Day on Saturday.
