It was understood that the man is called Matthew Choi Nam-sang. He weighs about 70kg and stands at around 1.8m. He has white skin and was last seen wearing a light green windbreaker, a pair of blue jeans and dark shoes, carrying a black backpack.

His English mother gave birth to him in South Africa. His father on the other hand came from Hong Kong. He claimed he works as a software developer on job-hunting platforms.

Choi also started a YouTube channel, where he made remarks about “being brainwashed through microwave”. He said he had been tailed by somebody else for a few years, which completely destroyed his family, career and relationship with friends. It is also the reason why he fled to Hong Kong, according to those videos.

It was understood that he lives in a flat on the lower floors of Wing Fong Mansion on Second Street in Sai Ying Pun.

Some neighbors said they worry that Choi is still hiding in the flat, although officers yesterday visited each household unit door-to-door to seek information from residents.

Records showed that police once arrested and charged him with possessing offensive weapons back in 2019, after finding two knives wrapped in newspaper.

But Choi was acquitted of the charge as the prosecution failed to prove that he would use the knives for any unlawful purpose. He was also found not diagnosed with any mental disorder at that time.

The murder took place around 5am on Tuesday in Sai Ying Pun. Choi slashed the neck of a 48-year-old taxi driver with a 25cm chopper over a dispute. The cabbie was certified dead when being rushde to hospital.
