Social welfare sector lawmaker, Bottle Shiu Ka-chun, who was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment for his role in the 2014 Occupy movement, said today the Hong Kong Baptist University will not extend his teaching contract, which will expire on August 31.

Shiu said the decision was politically motivated and that he was not surprised about it. He also said the university owes him a reason and that since its internal investigation committee has yet to complete its investigation, the procedures are inappropriate.

Shui was informed by the university in January that since he was convicted, it will set up a committee to review his case and relief him of teaching duties.

He said he is unable to contact the university and that he will filed an appeal as his teaching performance record was excellent.
