A sergeant from a police tactical unit (PTU) team has tested positive in preliminary checks for coronavirus, making him the fourth officer infected in the local outbreak.
The police announced on social media this morning that a 46-year-old sergeant who is based in the West Kowloon region fell ill on Thursday and tested preliminary positive the next day. He had taken part in patrols and crowd-management operations in the past two weeks.
"He was not considered as a close contact of the other infected officers, and did not have any travel history in the previous 14 days," the force said.
Members working at the same unit with the male officer were asked to work from home, and police said it was disinfecting facilities he had used including the station and a dormitory.
Three officers were diagnosed with the disease in the past two months, including a 31-year-old PTU male officer, a 22-year-old policewoman working at the Sham Shui Po Police Station and another 48-year-old male cop who belongs to the North Point Division and is part of the Eastern District riot police team.
